Co-Dance Machine is a mobile multimedia art installation designed to be placed in the negative spaces of the city, those unnoticed gaps between buildings or overlooked corners of urban life. By activating these in-between spaces, the work transforms them into accessible, spontaneous sites for play and gathering.
The installation uses music and dance to bridge the inner worlds of the elderly and the young, breaking down generational boundaries. Functioning as an integrated technological environment, the device creates a shared yet divided space: the movements of older participants dancing on one side are captured and transformed in real-time to affect music effects, converting public square dance rhythms into experimental electronic music and 2D VJ animation on the youth’s side.
In doing so, Co-Dance Machine creates a layered sensory experience—blending sight and sound to connect generations through movement, rhythm, and shared presence.
