Symbolization is the process of replacing complex things with simple, single symbols. Urban imagery becomes a collection of symbols or signs. Symbols and language wander between the truth and fiction of the city, sometimes triumphant, sometimes misremembered, sometimes failing, and sometimes only awakening people after deception. So, how can we break the symbols of the city and see what lies beneath them?
